Great list. Thanks!

As for the gowns & blow-outs, you can get kimono-style gowns, like these ones: http://www.kidbean.com/lapsaky-newborn-baby-organic-cotton-kimono-gown.html - best of both worlds!

As someone who's been through this with my first (bio kid) and now awaiting a second (to be adopted domestically), I really smiled at this list. Very useful! And yeah, we have that same awkwardness ... even though we have most of the gear from the first time around and some vague recollections as to what to do with it all, we don't know when it's going to happen and, oops!, suddenly the guest room will need to be transformed into a nursery overnight ;-)

you are awesome, LJ! this list definitely helped me as we prepared. I should have bought more of everything, so now we just do a LOT of laundry.

personally I love the moby wrap for an infant carrier and the sling didn't work for us at all. we also have an ergo-like carrier that we'll use when she's a little bigger. I also like the born free bottles which don't leak.

Yes. In general you want to hold off. But a doctor can recommendba dose and at three am, better to carry it and not need it. With the clothes as with a few other items, i suggested a few different items so that you have a few options on hand.

I heard/read that babies shouldn't get ibuprofen until they're 6 months old - and believe me, I was waiting for that day, because I am a huge fan of ibuprofen. Do you know if that's changed?

Also, I hated the infant gowns, because my daughter was always having blow-outs. The way the gowns were designed, they would have to come off over her head, and when they were covered in yuck, I didn't like that much. So, if you have a child who keeps everything confined to their diaper, they're great and easy. Otherwise, I'd stick with sleepers.

Nice, thorough list!

Great list! I would add another detail about diapers though. Yes, Pampers Swadlers are fantastic, however, since most adoptive parents are also first time parents, we took it a step further. Pampers Swadlers SENSITIVE were the way to go for us. There is a little line on the front that turns bluish/green when the diaper is wet. We needed this in the beginning until we got the hang of things. Pretty dummy proof!
