Perfect Moment Monday: 32 Flavors and then Some
Each year, there is a race in our neighborhood on Thanksgiving Day called the Turkey Chase 10k. It’s a huge race for the area, and though it often is rainy or cold, people come out in thousands for that run or the 2 mile fun run. You can see people with turkey hats and even people who run the course backwards. It’s also a big deal for me to do, because it’s right around my birthday, and there’s something about running a race as I turn a year older that makes me feel vibrant and alive. It’s also a big deal for me to do, because it’s right around my birthday, and there’s something about running a race as I turn a year older that makes me feel vibrant and alive.
Sometimes I have done the 10k, and some years when I haven’t been up on my training, like last year, I run the two miles with my dad. Mr. Badger usually stays home and begins the turkey roasting. Either way, I always come home and feel good about the day ahead, since I’ve already gotten a workout in.
Enter my dear friend E’s mama, who I seriously don’t know what I’d do without. She and her family are joining us for my favorite holiday this year, and also is going to run the 10k with me. To make sure we were both up for it, we ran the course yesterday. And while it was hard to get started, we ran the whole thing, no walking.
Today, I registered for the race, and it asked me how old I will be on 11/26. I answered 32 proudly, simply because it’s the last time I’ll be 32, and how cool is it that one of the last things I’ll do in this year of my life is move the body I was given? Filling out those numbers was my perfect moment.

What a terrific tradition, one that involves both your body and mind.
Happy early birthday, too! No turkey jokes from me
.
I love race traditions. We try to do race for the cure as our race tradition. I love running (or, ahem, walking) with the “in honor of MOM” pendant on my back.
I love that you are doing NaMoBloPo. It’s nice to see you around so often again.
Hope you have a happy close to 32!
Run, LJ, ruuuuuun
What a great gift to yourself –and then you can celebrate with a few cocktails when its done! Cant beat that!
Aw, Shucks! I am blushing…but I seriously don’t know what I do with out you either. You make my motherhood so rich
.
Have a great trot! And a happy birthday.
