Perfect Moment Monday: Sing me a song
V hates the car. 10 months old, and still the kid screams with blood-curdling intensity when he’s in the car for more than 5 minutes. There was maybe a month there where he didn’t do it, but it’s back and louder than ever now.
Saturday night we got in my in-laws’ car and drove out for dinner, and with me and my MIL in the back seat, his usual freak out ensued…until I had an idea.
I sang.
Most nap times I’ll sing him the Beatles’ “I Will” as I rock him to sleep, and so I started with that, and he got quiet. The song ended and he fussed again. So I sang some children’s songs for him, and again he quieted down. It was truly the only thing that would soothe him.
While I never like to hear him cry, knowing that I can soothe him with music is perfect to me.

Um, can I start nominating songs? Forget the kids’ songs. Go with something awesome, like Billy Jean.
Jendeis made me laugh.
I’m so glad that T responded to my singing back then. Because it still soothes her even now.
V will grow up with great taste in music!
Visiting from Weebles.
May your new secret weapon never lose its potency!
P.S. Your baby’s awful cute
it’s amazing what singing does for baby J. I have a whole medley I do at night, and different songs in the car or when she fusses. always looking for new ideas though…
I have recently discovered this too. My little guy is becoming less and less tolerant of his carseat now that he’s squished in it with a heavy coat on. The only lullabye that I know all the words to is Twinkle Twinkle. He loves it. I need to learn a new song for my sanity.
Glad the singing is working for you!
I am visiting from Weebles Perfect Moment Monday post.
I found that singing not only soothed my kids, but seemed to soothe me as well. It’s very calming. Maybe my mom sang to me when I was a baby???
Thanks for sharing your Perfect Moment Monday!
Yeah! You need to teach E beatles tunes so I can wake up to some more sophisticated music, 5 little monkeys and bingo is a a little rough at 6:30 a.m.
